Pro Day season is underway, in earnest, and teams have scouts strewn about the country to put the finishing touches on their files on prospects.

There are plenty of ways to figure a team's interest, and one is the private workout. So here's one for you ... The Patriots will conduct a private workout with LSU defensive linemen Al Woods next Tuesday, after the Tigers hold their Pro Day on Monday. Woods is a long-limbed, 6-foot-3, 309-pound anchor who could have the versatility to play either the 5-technique end or the nose in the New England system.

So what does it mean? Maybe nothing. Maybe the team has a question about the player it might need answered. Maybe there's real genuine interest -- Which would make some sense since depth on the defensive line isn't what it used to be here, with Richard Seymour and Jarvis Green gone. Whatever it is, the Patriots want to get a good look at the kid, who could be under consideration for one of the club's three second-round picks.

Also worth passing along on the draft front: Nick Caserio and offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia were present at Rutgers Pro Day yesterday. Why should you care? Well, that Scarnecchia made the trip might indicate an interest in first-round tackle prospect Anthony Davis. I can tell you that the Patriots haven't set up anything with Davis yet, but it would seem like they might be interested in kicking the tires there, something they couldn't really get done yesterday.
