The Patriots and Falcons will hold a pair of combined practices Aug. 17 at the Falcons’ training facility, two days before their exhibition game at the Georgia Dome.

“We came to an agreement on the idea, and that we’d have it prior to the preseason game,’’ Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said yesterday. “We’re looking forward to matching up with a talented team.’’

Dimitroff has a history with Bill Belichick — he was a scout in Cleveland when Belichick was coaching the Browns, and he worked in the Patriots’ front office before he was hired by the Falcons in 2008.

Atlanta will also hold combined practices with Jacksonville during training camp; Dimitroff did not want to call them scrimmages.

The news was revealed yesterday afternoon in a humorous way. Dimitroff was the co-host on an Atlanta radio station and had Belichick call in. During their on-air chat, Belichick asked who would get to pick the music when their teams were on the field together.

It is believed to be the first time New England will practice with another team during the exhibition season since 2001, when the Giants came to Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I., the former site of Patriots training camp.

Quarterback claimed
The Patriots claimed quarterback Mike Teel off waivers from Seattle and released quarterback Jeff Rowe and tight end Robbie Agnone.

Teel, the Seahawks’ sixth-round pick in 2009, played at Rutgers under Belichick friend Greg Schiano, and was teammates with Devin McCourty, the Patriots’ first-round pick this year. Teel was released after the Seahawks picked up former Bills signal-caller J.P. Losman.
