New England's 24-20 win over the Colts in a matchup of unbeaten teams Sunday drew the third-highest television rating for a Patriots regular-season game.
The broadcast on Channel 4 had a 38.7 rating and 63 share in the 4:15 p.m. time slot. That put it behind the win over the Dolphins in the snow Dec. 7, 2003, (43.8 rating/61 share) and the victory over the Ravens Nov. 28, 2004 (38.8 rating/60 share).
Nationally, the game was the most-watched this season, with a 22.4 rating and 39 share to beat out the Patriots-Cowboys game from October, which had an 18.5/35.
The national overnight rating is the highest since 1987, which is as long as the networks have been keeping records. The previous mark was a 22.2/41 for the Cowboys-49ers game Nov. 10, 1996, in a matchup of the winners of the four previous Super Bowls. Dallas won that game, 20-17, in overtime.
Indianapolis did manage to beat Boston in the overnight ratings with a 45.9/65.
