It might not be in the customary form of verbal trash-talking, but the Colts made a move Monday that should get the Patriots’ attention and will be interpreted by many as gamesmanship.
The Colts signed receiver Deion Branch five days before they face the Patriots in a playoff game.
Branch was with the Patriots as recently as last season, when he appeared in 10 games. Branch hasn’t played a snap for any team this season, but he worked out for the Colts last month. He lives in Carmel, Ind.
“We figured the questions were going to come up that we were signing this guy who spent some time in New England,” said Colts coach Chuck Pagano. “Is it just a coincidence, or do you need the guy to help you win a football game?”
