New Orleanss emphasis on tough physical play resulted in a meteoric rise for its running game, all the way to sixth in the NFL at an impressive 4.5-yards-per carry clip. Thomas carries the heaviest load, and has been the lead guy all year in the conventional run game, which is heavy on zone looks and exploits backed-off defenses. Bell had been a spot guy for Thomas and the closer, but Hamilton has taken some of his snaps, while Bush is clearly the slash weapon who moves all over the formation. Its a deeper backfield than Indianapolis has, with more defined roles for the players.
Addai remains the Colts horse, though the team has been wildly inconsistent running the ball.
