Roger Goodell -- and This Blog is rapidly coming to the conclusion that he was adopted -- lost in court yesterday and took to the pages of Highlights For Plutocrats to whine about the sad state of affairs that he and his fellow owners have brought upon themselves and the game they profess to love. This Blog is reminded of nothing more than the way Sheriff Bart saves himself from the citizens of Rock Ridge at the beginning of Blazing Saddles.

Honestly, now, Rog, at least try a little harder. Your nostalgia for "collectively bargained compromise" rings a little hollow when one realizes that you guys had precisely that. But, a few years back, you and your employers decided that the "collectively bargained compromise" wasn't entirely to your advantage, so you embarked on a campaign to claw a lot of it back. This included a lockout, which is always and in every case a deliberate management strategy. Moreover, your lachrymose maunderings about the good ol' days under the agreement that your side deliberately set out to destroy should have rung the bells of even the WSJ's op-ed page -- which in the past occasionally professed to be flummoxed over whether or not Bill Clinton was having people killed.
