Just for the sake of argument,, let's assume I don't really know what I'm doing here, wandering among the Intertoobz, which I hear the kids are very big on these days. Bear in mind that my first job in journalism was typing bowling agate for a newspaper in Milwaukee, which involved taking the results over the electric telephone and then sending them up to the composing room via a system of actual pneumatic tubes. (Historical Note -- we also sent cookies to the guys upstairs. An experimental attempt to send beer up one night was notably unsuccessful.) And now there's this thing here which, if we believe former senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, isn't all that different. One set of tubes to another, 35 years apart.

What I do know is this -- the issues in this blog are going to be my issues. The enthusiasms are going to be mine. The politics, when they appear, which may or may not be very often, are going to be left and they're going to be loud. My blog is my house. You're more than welcome to visit, and I hope you do, but I decide what gets hung on the wall. I decide what gets served for dinner. I decide what gets played on the sound system. If you don't like my art, my food, or my music, you can put up with it, or you can start your own blog. It's easy and fun.

For example, I suspect we'll be having some fun with this right here. Ol' 38 has gone to Damascus, it appears. Scott Brown is going to pull us back from the "abyss" that yawns there in the form of an insurance-friendly health-care reform bill. Far be it from me to question the value of an endorsement from the man who singlehandedly held John McCain's margin of defeat in this state below a million votes, but I would suggest to anyone who's interested that, maybe, this isn't really a very big news story.  Seriously, there wasn't another police chase in Florida that Channel 7 could have thrown up there to fill time?

I have no idea how this whole thing is going to work out but, hang around, you might like the food and the music after all. I'll see if there's some way I can send beer through these tubes.
