ST. PETERSBURG,Fla. --- Here's what I worry about:

               AB H 2B 3B HR RBI
Youkilis 30 4 2 0 1 5
Drew 21 5 0 1 1 1
Varitek 20 1 0 0 0 0
Lowrie 18 3 0 0 0 0
Ortiz 18 4 1 0 3 7
Crisp 17 2 1 0 0 0

Those are the Trop numbers for these gentlemen in 2008. That's 21 hits in 124 at-bats, a .169 batting average for those of you scoring at home. About the only encouraging things is that Big Papi hit two homers here last time. And yes, I know Jason Varitek can go 1 for 20 anywhere these days, so we can factor him out.

The flip side:

AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI AVG OPS
Pedroia 37 5 11 2 1 1 3 .297 .819
Ellsbury 38 5 12 0 0 0 1 .316 .728

It's not as if there's anything spectacularly wonderful about those numbers, either. But all this does is emphasize the difficulties the Red Sox have had winning here this season . . . and the thing gets scarier when you consider how much of whatever they were able to do offensively was accomplished in one 13-run outburst Sept. 15. The beneficiary of all this abberational offensive largess, was, predictably, Dice-K, who, if you're looking for something to hang your hat on, is getting the call in Game 1.
