Derek Army and defenseman Myles Harvey each scored a pair of goals as Providence College defeated Massachusetts, 6-4, last night in a Hockey East contest at Schneider Arena.

Alex Beaudry made 22 saves for the Friars (2-0, 2-0), who opened the season Friday night with a victory over Boston University.

Daniel Hobbs had a pair of strikes for the Minutemen (1-2-0, 1-1-0).

Merrimack 3, Army 2 - Ryan Flanigan snapped a 1-1 tie early in the third period and John Heffernan tallied the eventual winner as the No. 13 Warriors (2-0-0) won their home opener, beating the Black Knights (0-3-0) in a tight-checking, nonconference game.

The Warriors outshot Army, 19-2, in the second period.

Maine 3, North Dakota 3 - Ryan Hegarty found the back of the net with 12:18 remaining in the third period to lift the visiting Black Bears (1-2-1) into a tie with the sixth-ranked Fighting Sioux (2-1-1).

Brian Flynn and Will O’Neill also scored for 17th-ranked Maine, which received a 24-save effort from Dan Sullivan.

UMass-Lowell 4, Minnesota St. 1 - Derek Arnold struck for a pair of goals, and Matt Feirra and Joseph Pendenza each added a strike to help the River Hawks (2-0-0) sweep the season-opening series with the Mavericks (1-3-0) in Mankato, Minn.

Holy Cross 2, AIC 1 - Shayne Stockton snapped a 1-1 tie at 9:01 of the third period and Adam Schmidt had a goal and an assist as the Crusaders (1-1-0, 1-0-0 Atlantic) won their home opener.

Freshman Matt Ginn earned his first collegiate win with 14 saves. Ben Meisner made 36 saves for AIC (0-3-0, 0-1-0).

Quinnipiac 7, Canisius 1 - Jeremy Langlois had a natural hat trick and an assist and the host Bobcats (3-1-0) tied a school record with four power-play goals in a nonconference victory over the Griffins (0-1-0).

Clarkson 5, Sacred Heart 2 - Louke Oakley had two goals, including the eventual winner in the second period, to lead the Golden Knights (2-1-1) past the Pioneers (0-4-0) in Potsdam, N.Y. Matt Gingera and Neil Fachini scored for Sacred Heart.


BC 5, UNH 0 - Blake Bolden and Taylor Wasylk each tallied a goal and two assists to help the No. 5 Eagles (2-1-1, 1-0-1 Hockey East) beat the Wildcats (3-2-1, 0-1-1) for the fourth time in their last seven meetings. Corinne Boyles earned the shutout with 16 saves.

BU 6, Union 2 - Freshman Kayla Tutino recorded her first collegiate hat trick and Jenn Wakefield added a pair of strikes to guide the fourth-ranked Terriers (4-1-0) to a nonconference victory over the visiting Dutchwomen (1-4-0).

NU 3, Quinnipiac 1 - Rachel Llanes scored the winner and Florence Schelling stopped 30 shots to help the No. 8 Huskies (4-0-0) beat the visiting Bobcats (1-4-0).
