Terriers use some third-period magic to sweep past Maine

Zach Cohen, Eric Gryba, and Nick Bonino scored third-period goals, snapping a 2-2 tie and lifting Boston University to a 5-2 Hockey East victory over No. 12 Maine last night at Agganis Arena.

The Terriers completed a weekend sweep of the Black Bears and moved over .500 for the first time this season, improving to 13-12-3 overall, 10-9-2 in Hockey East.

Sophomore Kieran Millan recorded 28 saves for the Terriers, who also got goals from sophomores Corey Trivino and Chris Connolly.

Jeff Dimmen scored both of Maine’s goals and sophomore Scott Darling made 31 saves for the Black Bears (14-11-3, 11-8-2).

NU 6, UMass 2 - Wade MacLeod had two goals and an assist while six other Huskies tallied multi-point games as host Northeastern (15-12-1, 10-10-1 Hockey East) swept its weekend series with the Minutemen (16-13-0, 11-11-0).

Merrimack 3, Vermont 2 - Jesse Todd and Stephane Da Costa scored 19 seconds apart late in the third period to help the Warriors (11-15-1, 8-11-1 Hockey East) stun the host Catamounts (13-10-5, 7-9-5).

Harvard 4, Union 3 - Alex Killorn scored two goals and Kyle Richter made 31 saves to lead the Crimson (7-15-3, 7-8-3 ECAC) past the No. 16 Dutchmen (16-8-6, 10-4-4) at Bright Center, completing a regular-season sweep of Union.

Yale 2, Cornell 1 - Sean Backman’s wrist shot from the lower right circle beat Ben Scrivens at 3:17 of overtime as the No. 7 Bulldogs (16-6-3, 12-4-2 ECAC) edged the sixth-ranked Big Red (14-7-3, 12-3-2) at Ithaca, N.Y.

Colgate 6, Brown 2 - Harry Zolnierczyk and Jack Maclellan scored shorthanded goals in the third period, giving the Raiders (12-12-5, 9-7-1) an ECAC victory over the Bears (7-15-3, 5-10-3) in Hamilton, N.Y.

Dartmouth 4, RPI 3 - Troy Mattila and Joe Gaudet scored the tying and winning goals, respectively, as the host Big Green (7-17-1, 5-12-1 ECAC) rallied form a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Engineers (16-13-3, 9-7-2).

Clarkson 4, Quinnipiac 1 - Four minutes into the second period, Scott Freeman snapped a 1-1 tie with his sixth goal of the season and sent the Golden Knights (7-20-3, 3-13-2) to an ECAC victory over the visiting Bobcats (15-13-2, 9-9-0).

Norwich 5, Skidmore 3 - Shawn Baker scored the winner midway through the third period as the Cadets (18-1-4, 14-1-2 ECAC East), No. 2 in Division 2, snapped a 3-3 tie and beat the visiting Thoroughbreds (8-13-2, 7-8-2).

Middlebury 3, Babson 1 - John Sullivan scored twice and Charlie Townsend added a goal and an assist as the Panthers (14-4-4, 10-3-4 ECAC East), ranked ninth in Division 2, toppled the host Beavers (12-9-2, 9-7-1).

Holy Cross 4, Bentley 0 - Thomas Tysowsky made 17 saves and Rob Forshner, Mike Daly, Jay Silvia, and Jordan Cyr scored for the host Crusaders (10-15-5, 9-11-4 Atlantic), who handed the Falcons (11-16-3, 9-13-2) their fourth straight loss.

Southern N.H. 8, Stonehill 3 - Brandon Bradley recorded a hat trick and the Penmen (4-13-3, 2-5-2 Northeast-10) scored six times in the second period to rout the visiting Skyhawks (8-12-1, 1-6).

Suffolk 7, Nichols 1 - Joe Greene, Pat Welch, and Jason Molle scored first-period goals to get the Rams (10-10-3, 6-4-2 ECAC Northeast) off to a fast start against the host Bison (12-8-2, 6-5-0).

Tufts 5, Southern Maine 3 - Matt Amico scored the eventual game-winner at 8:06 of the third period as the Jumbos (11-8-3, 7-7-3 ECAC East) struck for four unanswered goals to beat the host Huskies (8-12-3, 5-9-3), who got a hat trick from Jon Rutt.

Harvard 2, Union 1 - Randi Griffin and Kate Buesser found the net and Kylie Stephens recorded 13 saves to guide the fifth-ranked Crimson (17-6-4, 12-6-2 ECAC) past the host Dutchmen (5-26-1, 1-18-1).

Harvard’s Katey Stone moved within a win of tying former Minnesota and Colby coach Laura Halldorson for the all-time lead in Division 1 victories at 337.

Colgate 4, Brown 3 - Katie Stewart notched a hat trick as the visiting Raiders (10-18-4, 6-10-4 ECAC) earned a come-from-behind victory over the Bears (2-20-4, 0-17-3).

BU 3, Northeastern 2 - In a shootout, Holly Lorms scored and Melissa Haber stopped all three shots she faced for the Terriers (11-8-12, 7-6-4 Hockey East), who rallied to tie the game at 2 in the second period against the ninth-ranked Huskies (16-7-6, 8-5-4) at Brown Arena.

BC 4, Maine 1 - Mary Restuccia had two goals and an assist as the Eagles (7-15-10, 6-9-4 Hockey East) rolled over the Black Bears (6-18-5, 3-13-3) at Orono, Maine.

UNH 4, Vermont 2 - Micaela Long had four assists to lift the sixth-ranked Wildcats (17-6-5, 11-5-2) to a Hockey East victory over the visiting Catamounts (10-19-1, 5-12-1).

UConn 4, Providence 1 - Monique Weber scored twice to lead the No. 7-ranked Huskies (19-7-5, 10-4-5 Hockey East) past the eighth-ranked Friars (13-10-9, 9-5-5-3) at Storrs, Conn.
