If the Minutemen were intimidated by No. 2 Boston University opening its season on UMass-Amherst’s home ice, they didn’t show it. Will Ortiz scored the winner past BU goalie Kieran Millan as the Minutemen downed the defending national champions, 3-2, last night at Mullins Center.

Rocco Carzo put the Minutemen on the right track with a first-period goal at 5:21. Matt Irwin made it 2-0 at 8:58 off a faceoff before the Terriers could regroup.

Alex Chiasson scored twice to start BU on the road back, getting his second in the second period.

Miami 6, UNH 3 - The No. 1-ranked RedHawks (3-0) scored four consecutive goals in the second period to roll over the Wildcats (0-2) in Durham, N.H.

Ferris State 2, Connecticut 1 - Derek Graham and Travis Ouellette scored in the second period to lift the host Bulldogs over the Huskies.

Merrimack 3, Holy Cross 1 - Chris Barton scored his fourth goal of the season and Jesse Todd scored the winner for the host Warriors.

Michigan State 5, Maine 3 - Gustav Nyquist, David deKastrozza, and Robby Dee scored for the host Black Bears in a loss to the Spartans.

Clarkson 4, Vermont 0 - The No. 4-ranked Golden Knights won their 12th consecutive game over the host Catamounts.
