UConn gets on track

Huskies rally past Lehigh

Ben Gordon scored 19 points and had a career-high five steals to lead No. 3 Connecticut to a 75-55 victory over Lehigh last night in Hartford.

The Huskies (5-1) were playing their first game after relinquishing the No. 1 ranking, which they held in the preseason poll and for the first two weeks of the season.

Rashad Anderson finished with 14 points and Denham Brown had 13 points and eight rebounds to help UConn overcome a rocky first half against the smaller Mountain Hawks (1-3).

Lehigh managed to stay close with five 3-pointers and caught UConn with 2:49 left in the first half on Dayne Mickelson's jumper that tied it 24-24.

Kansas 85, TCU 66 -- Keith Langford scored 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting in his homecoming and sparked the game-deciding run in the second half to lead the No. 1 Jayhawks (3-0) at Fort Worth. Kansas, who became the No. 1 team earlier in the day with a jump from sixth -- the biggest to the top in the poll in almost 40 years -- led for good after Langford's short jumper in traffic with 17:33 left broke a 43-all tie.

Langford, a junior, played high school ball in Fort Worth, and was recruited to Kansas by Neil Dougherty, the former Jayhawks assistant who is Texas Christian's second-year coach.

Kentucky 89, Marshall 76 -- Gerald Fitch scored 24 points and the No. 9 Wildcats withstood the Thundering Herd's 3-point flurry and second-half comeback in Cincinnati.

Marquette 71, Notre Dame 58 -- Steve Novak scored a career-high 21 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the No. 24 Golden Eagles (5-0) past the No. 23 Irish (2-1) in Milwaukee.

Texas Tech 76, California 69 -- Jia Perkins scored 23 of her 29 points in the second half, leading the fifth-ranked Lady Raiders (7-0) over the Golden Bears (3-2) at Lubbock, Texas.

Ohio St. 96, IUPUI 48 -- Caity Matter hit 8 of 12 3-pointers and finished with 26 points to lead the No. 14 Buckeyes over Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis at Columbus, Ohio.

Bates 91, Salem St. 64 -- Olivia Zurek scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bobcats (2-2) over the Vikings (3-1) at Lewiston, Maine.

Mount Holyoke 78, Roger Williams 69 -- Sophomore Jonee Billy led four players in double figures with 24 points for the victory in South Hadley.
