Andover’s Ryan Heavey a stellar defenseman for Babson hockey

Individual accolades are not widely celebrated within the men’s hockey program at Babson College.

The focus is never on just one player. Every game, a different player steps forward, catalysts that are critical to the program’s perennial success.

A player such as Ryan Heavey, a senior defenseman from Andover via Phillips Andover and Choate Rosemary Hall who has been a four-year starter for the Beavers.

An assistant captain, the 6-foot, 190-pound Heavey defines the role of an offensive defenseman: an ability to stay aggressive and put the puck on net, but with a clear sense of responsibility to maintain security back in his own zone.

“He’s unbelievable back there,” said junior forward Mike Driscoll, the team’s leading scorer in a 14-3 start.
