By now you might have seen the Mercer basketball team celebrating their upset March Madness win over Duke on Friday. Senior Kevin Canevari shows the world his moves.
But the Mercer gaurd is not freestyling. He’s doing the “Nae Nae” dance. What is the “Nae Nae” dance? Glad you asked.
According to Billboard.com, the Nae Nae is a “new hip-hop dance craze” inspired by the character Sheneneh Jenkins from Martin Lawrence’s 1990s sitcom “Martin.” When the Atlanta-based group We Are Toonz released the video in January for “Drop That NaeNae,” the rest became history.
Canevari isn’t the first athlete to bust this move.
And of course the entertainment industry wants a piece of the action. Hello, Disney characters doing the Nae Nae Dance:
It also gets the Jennifer Lopez seal of approval in a video released earlier this month.
If you want to join the fun, or be prepared for your next victory dance, here is an instructional video and how to do the dance justice.
