ORONO, Maine - Pushaun Brown ran for 144 yards and a touchdown, and the Maine defense returned two fumbles for touchdowns as the Black Bears rallied to beat Massachusetts, 32-21, yesterday to remain tied atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings.

UMass led, 14-10, at halftime and increased its advantage to 11 points with 13:48 left in the third quarter when Shane Viveiros intercepted Warren Smith and returned it 26 yards for a score.

But Maine (8-2, 6-1) turned the tables from that juncture, scoring 22 unanswered points. Smith’s 6-yard scoring run, Brian Harvey’s 30-yard field goal, and fumble returns for touchdowns by Troy Russell and Michael Cole sealed the comeback.

Maine just edged UMass, 372-356, in total offense, but forced four turnovers by the Minutemen (5-5) while giving the ball away just once.

Smith finished with 184 passing yards with an interception, and also rushed for 44 yards for Maine.
