More doubt at QB
Shinskie’s dealing with a cracked rib
The unsettled situation at quarterback got a bit more muddled yesterday when freshman David Shinskie was diagnosed with a cracked rib, the result of a hit by defensive end Damik Scafe during Sunday’s situational scrimmage. He was listed as day to day and could be available for the season opener against Northeastern Sept. 5.
If Shinskie is unavailable for the opener, coach Frank Spaziani may opt to use a combination of freshman Michael Marscovetra and junior Codi Boek. Marscovetra has displayed the best arm strength in training camp and Boek’s running ability and huddle presence have drawn the coaching staff’s attention.
Spaziani found some positives on offense in Sunday’s scrimmage. “A little better execution,’’ he said. “And it looked like we were able to run the ball. The whole operation looked better.’’
