In a record-breaking game full of ups and downs, Worcester State junior quarterback Kevin Bumpus proved to be a steady hand.

 Bumpus came on in relief of Pat Viencek midway through the second quarter to pass for 333 yards and five touchdowns — including a 15-yard strike to Arron Witkus as time expired — in the Lancers’ 64-63 shootout victory over Massachusetts Maritime in Worcester.

 Mass. Maritime (2-1, 1-1) reset the national record for plays in one game (121), first downs (44), and the two teams combined for 230 plays to best the previous mark of 214.

 The Buccaneers led 41-14 late in the second quarter but Worcester St. reeled off the next 44 points to take a 58-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
