More than three decades after Doug Flutie came out of Natick to put Boston College football back on the map with his magic touch and the “Miracle in Miami,” his nephew Troy Flutie is following in his footsteps, ready to start his senior year at quarterback at Natick High School with an offer to play for BC next year.
“Here we are again,” muses Tom Lamb, the former coach who mentored Doug, brothers Bill and Darren, and Bill’s sons Billy and Brett at Natick. “It’s almost deja vu.”
The Flutie fathers and cousins still follow the high school team obsessively.
“It’s been a joy,” says Doug, who flies up from Florida for games or follows them by phone or text message. “It’s been a reason to hang around Natick.”
