Games Iím looking forward to watching this weekend:
Belmont at Indiana State: The Bruins have slipped a little and this is another tough matchup on the home court of the second-best team in the Missouri Valley. This will be a nice home win for the Sycamores.
Villanova at Syracuse: Remember itís not a conference game; Syracuse is in the ACC now. Villanova is one of the surprise teams of the season and the Wildcats can really prove a point by pulling off an upset here.
Columbia vs. St. Johnís: Iím so old I remember seeing a Columba-St. Johnís game at Madison Square Garden and Columbia won! They wonít in 2013.This game is actually at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as game one of a tripleheader. Kansas State-Tulane and BC-VCU follow. Itís not tournament basketball, but itís an interesting afternoon.
Harvard at Fordham: I have to check in on the Crimson because Fordham can have its moments at home, but Iím not expecting an upset.
Louisville at Kentucky: Remember, this game isnít life or death ... itís more important than that. The Lexington, Ky. AAU Playaz are the home team but this will be a chance for Rick Pitino to really hand it to them. He wonít pass up on that chance.
Providence at UMass: Both teams are better than I thought theyíd be. UMass needs to -- and I believe they will -- defend home court successfully.
VCU vs. BC in Brooklyn: I feel sorry for BC; this could be like watching a car accident, youíll end up averting your eyes. Or maybe Oliver Hanlon can weave his way through the havoc defense for some easy baskets. Iíd like to think that, but I donít really believe it.
Missouri at NC State: A big non-conference game for NC State, one they HAVE to win. And should win since theyíre home.
Santa Clara at Gonzaga: I still havenít seen the Zags play a full game, but Iíve seen enough to know they wonít lose this. Still, Iíll need to spend some time with them even if itís a rout.
Texas Southern at TCU: Texas Southern is the best team in the MEAC, most likely a tournament team. The Tigers are 4-7, but went to Philly and beat Temple as Aaric Murray scored 48 points. TCU is up and coming, canít afford to be upset.
Canisius at Notre Dame: Billy Baron might go for 40 and lead the Golden Griffins to an upset. ND just lost its leading scoring because of academics.
