BC-UMass, Game 2

Good evening from Conte Forum, where the Boston College Eagles and the UMass Minutemen will face off in the second game of this best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal.
BC, on the heels of a 6-5 win last night, leads the series 1-0.

Final: BC 4, UMass 2
Barry Almeida leads the Eagles attack with two goals and an assist as BC sweeps UMass, 2-0.

Third Period

19:38 - BC, 5-2. Empty-netter for Barry Almeida.

14:30 - BC's Chris Kreider off for tripping, UMass power play.

12:14 - UMass' Brett Watson off for holding, BC power play.

9:34 - BC, 4-2. Steven Whitney's shot from the left circle takes a bad bounce off a UMass defender unto Paul Carey, who's left wide open at the far post. Dainton dives across the crease, but can't make it over in time.

2:11 - BC, 3-2. Braun gift-wraps one to Gibbons in the slot, and Gibbons goes backhand to forehand and pushes it over Dainton's left pad.

2:00 - UMass kills off the 1:57 power play to start the period.

Second Intermission: BC 2, UMass 2. Minutemen outshooting BC, 16-13. Eagles will start the third period with a 1:57 power play.

Second Period

19:57 - Kevin Czepiel going off for interference.

16:24 - UMass' T.J. Syner off for tripping, BC 4 on 3 for 12 seconds, followed by a 35-second 5 on 3.

15:10 - Muse squeezes a wrister, then shoves Justin Braun. Braun off for slashing and contact to the head, and we're looking at a 1:26 four-on-four.

14:35 - BC's Carl Sneep off for interference, UMass power play.

13:15 - 2-2. Wellman pokes it in through a scrum after T.J. Syner gets knocked off his feet behind the net. Goal holds up after review.

12:42 - BC, 2-1. Hayes feeds it across the ice to Carl Sneep, who avoids a driving Matt Irwin's poke attempt and beats Dainton over his left shoulder.

11:30 - BC's Brian Dumoulin off for interference. UMass power play coming up.

8:26 - UMass' Brian Keane will serve a too many men on the ice minor. Power play for BC.

7:00 - The hits keep coming. James Marcou and BC's Joe Whitney both go airborne after colliding at the UMass blue line.

Not alot of shots so far in this period, but UMass winning this period with an aggressive forecheck and blocked shots using a tight middle defense.

3:00 - UMass' T.J. Syner nearly tosses BC's Patch Alber over his shoulder heading to the corner.

1:30 - Kublin sends Gibbons airborne at the UMass blue line.

First Intermission: BC 1, UMass 1

We've just been informed James Marcou's 95th career assist tonight is a new record at UMass.

First Period

18:45 - Muse stops James Marcou's backhander.

16:26 - UMass' Martin Nolet off for cross checking. First power play for BC.

15:30 - James Marcou dumps Gibbons at the BC blue line.

12:18 - 1-1. UMass' James Marcou dishes it across the slot to Martin Nolet near the right post. Nolet's shot goes off Muse's pads, and Casey Wellman is there at the opposite post uncovered for the tip-in.

10:50 - Muse gloves a Doug Kublin wrister from the left circle...Brian Gibbons taken off the ice, getting examined on the bench by trainers.

10:00 - Mike Lecomte dumps Carl Sneep at the UMass blue line, near the left boards.

8:39 - BC's Joe Whitney off for charging.

7:40 - Dainton gloves a one-timer in front from Price.

5:37 - BC, 1-0. Barry Almeida roofs a wrister from the high slot over Dainton's left shoulder.

5:00 - Bad UMass giveaway leads to what should be an easy one-timer from Brian Gibbons to Cam Atkinson, but Dainton makes the nice save.

3:15 - Pat Mullane off for tripping. First UMass power play.

John Muse (12-8-2, 2.40) gets the nod in net tonight for BC. He will oppose Paul Dainton (15-14-0, 3.04), who made 26 saves last night.
