Boston College football coach Frank Spaziani returned from a recruiting trip this morning and immediately began working on completing his staff. According to sources close to the situation, Spaziani was focusing on former Navy coach Gary Tranquill as his new offensive coordinator as well as wide receivers coach Ryan Day who is regarded as a hot ticket item with a few Division 1 programs who are searcing for new offensive coordinators.
And when the day had turned into night, Spaziani, according to sources close to the program had chosen Tranquill as his next offensive coordinator.
Tranquill's relationship with Spaziani dates back more than 20 years with linkage to former Navy and Virginia coach George Welsh.
Tranquill was the coach at Navy for for five seasons, from 1982 until 1986. He then joined the Welsh's staff.at Virginia. He had other stints on college jobs most recently at North Carolina before he "retired'' when Carolina coach John Bunting was fired two years ago.
Now Spaziani, must solidify his defensive staff, with the major change expected to be the elevation of linebacker coach Bill McGovern to defensive coordinator to replace Spaziani.
Another opening which must be filled is offensive line coach as Jack Bicknell, as expected, was announced as the new assistant offensive line coach of the New York Giants.
