The Boston College women’s soccer team is headed to its first Final Four after beating the University of Washington, 1-0, in overtime in an NCAA Division 1 quarterfinal yesterday in Newton.
Senior Hannah Cerrone scored with 4:46 left in the first overtime, and the Eagles (17-6-1) advanced to play top seed Stanford (22-0-2) in Cary, N.C., on Friday. BC played Stanford to a 1-1 tie Aug. 20 at home, and lost to the Cardinal, 3-1, in last year’s Elite Eight.
Junior goaltender Jillian Mastroianni made five saves, two coming on an early flurry by the Huskies’ Alex Webber. Washington (13-9-2) finished with a 17-15 edge in shots.
Kristie Mewis put four shots on net for BC, and the sophomore from Hanson nearly gave the Eagles the lead in the first half, but her shot was tipped over the top of the goal by Huskies keeper Jorde LaFontaine-Kussman.
