Chris Kafina had his head into the game in powering the Wesleyan University men’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over NESCAC rival Bowdoin last weekend.
Making his first start of the season, the sophomore midfielder scored the Cardinals’ first and third goals on headers, and assisted on what proved to be winning goal.
His performance earned the former Lincoln-Sudbury Regional star Player of the Week honors in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
“Chris has a real nose for the goal,’’ said Wesleyan head coach Geoff Wheeler, a former standout at Dartmouth who served as the JV and assistant boys varsity coach at the Middlesex School in Concord for two seasons (1996-97).
Last season, Kafina played in 17 games last season, five as a starter, scoring three goals.
