Pacers team president Larry Bird would like owner Herb Simon to plan for his departure, according to a report from CBS Sports.
CBS' Ken Berger reports that Bird has told several friends in the NBA that he's decided to leave. The 55-year-old Bird had an agreement to stay with the Pacers until the end of the season. The Pacers are the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference and will face the Orlando Magic in the first round of the playoffs.
Bird has been the Pacers' president since 2002. He played for the Celtics from 1979 to 1992. He was elected into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998.
