The Longsjo Classic bicycle race in Fitchburg has been canceled for 2011, according to a notice on the event's web site.

A fire earlier this month damaged a building along the course at Putnam and Main streets, and sections of those streets, which are used for the race, remain closed and are expected to stay that way through the planned July 3 race date. Alternate roads were considered, but deemed not possible, according to the event's web site.

The Longsjo Classic began in 1960.
