This is really just an excuse to run a photo of Jennie Finch (credit to the Globe's Stan Grossfeld), but the face of US softball for many years welcomed a baby boy into the world on Sunday. That news may be jarring to some who were unaware that Finch has been off the market for quite some time (she has a another son), but the baby's name is also unique: Diesel Dean Daigle. The boy's father's name is Casey Daigle.

On her official Twitter account, Finch wrote today, “Our sweet precious Baby Diesel! Thank you all for your sweet prayers, praise God he is doing wonderful!"

With that name, and that mom, odds are there won't be many kids messing with little Diesel. Waiting for little Diesel at home is Finch's 5-year-old son, Ace.
