It leaves the state's media in the most difficult of positions. Give the biggest headline to the Yankees and you're accused of being Yankees fans. Feature the Red Sox, and you're a card-carrying member of the Nation.
(The Mets, it should be noted, are a distant third in the state's baseball interests. A survey by Quinnipiac University proves it every year.)
Today, Connecticut's Fox television affiliate is feeling some heat for deciding to show the Yankees-Mets Subway Series tonight instead of the Red Sox-Cubs throwback night. That naturally has Red Sox fans up in arms, as duly noted by the New Haven Register.
Here's a fun experiment. Copy the Register's story into Word, and search and replace Yankees with Red Sox and Mets with Cubs.
That's pretty much the story the Register would have written if Fox's decision went the other way.
