The Minnesota Twins announced on Wednesday that they have called up Milford nativeThumbnail image for Collabello.jpg and former Assumption College star Chris Colabello from Triple-A Rochester.

He is slated to make his big league debut in right field (a position he has played at only 4 times since leaving college ) and bat sixth in the Twins lineup this afternoon against the Atlanta Braves.

The 29-year-old Colabello played in the Independent Can-Am League with the Worcester Tornadoes and Nashua Pride for seven seasons before signing with Minnesota as a free agent on February 2, 2012.

In his first season of affiliated baseball with the Double-A New Britain Rock Cats, Colabello hit .284 with 19 home runs and 98 RBI. He also led the Eastern League in doubles with 37, earning him post-season All-Star honors.

He was invited to big league camp in the offseason and played for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic before starting the 2013 season with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings.

In his short time with Rochester Colabello continued to rake, batting .358 (third best in the International League) with 12 home runs (most in I.L.), 39 RBIs (2nd), 17 doubles (2nd) and league-bests in slugging percentage (.659) and OPS (1.076).

He was twice named the International League’s Player of the Week for his offensive performance.
