NOTES: A washout in Greenville sets up a twin bill today before the Drive (9-14) head out on a 7 game road swing. Austin Maddox will go in game one, his first start since April 16th and first appearance since the 21st when he allowed 4 earned runs and 8 hits in 4 1/3 innings of relief. In game two Frank Montas makes his fourth start of the season having given up 4 earned runs in each of his last three, none of which lasted more than 4 innings. The duo possess two of three worst WHIPs on the team, Maddox is low man with a 2.05…It has been twenty days since Steven Wright last toed the rubber for the PawSox (14-10). He did make his major league debut during that time, although it wasn’t under the best conditions (he did however strike out 4 in 3 2/3 innings). He will surely get another shot in the neat future, hopefully under more apt skies, but tonight Wright squares off against one of the top pitching prospects at McCoy Stadium. Columbus starter Trevor Bauer, the number three selection in the 2011 draft, is ranked as the 17th best overall prospect in the game by MLB.com. In 18 innings pitched he has struck out 24 batters…The Sea Dogs (13-9) shift to Reading, Pennsylvania after taking 2 of 3 from Trenton over the weekend. Brandon Workman will get his fourth start of the season tonight. He has pitched 5 or more inning in each appearance he has made this season, including a 5-inning stint in relief. Workman brings a 0.78 WHIP (3rd best in the Eastern League) and 28 strikeouts (6th best in E.L.) into tonight’s start…Henry Owens got an extra day of rest after yesterday’s postponement and will now pitch a road start instead of at home. He is coming off of his best start of the season against the very Blue Rocks that he will face tonight. In last Tuesday’s outing the 6’6” lefty twirled 6 innings of shutout ball, allowing only 3 hits and a walk while striking out 6. The Salem Red Sox (11-10) took 3 of 4 from Wilmington last week at home.
New England teams
Harrisburg Senators – Paul Demny (1-2, 4.57 ERA, 23 Ks)
at New Britain Rock Cats – Trevor May (1-1, 2.11 ERA, 23 Ks)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats – Ryan Tepera (3-0, 2.42 ERA, 10 Ks)
at Trenton Thunder – Matt Tracy (1-2, 13.17 ERA, 9 Ks)
NOTES: The Rock Cats (12-11) welcome the Harrisburg Senators to New Britain for a four game series. Tonight’s starter Trevor May is coming off of a complete game (7 innings) shutout of New Hampshire where he allowed only 3 hits and struck out 4. May ran into some early troubles in that outing, but managed to get out of jams while getting stronger as the game wore on. His 2.11 ERA is 8th best in the Eastern League…Ryan Tepera has been a pleasant surprise for the Fisher Cats (11-13) thus far. Having logged 5+ innings in each of his four starts he has picked up 3 wins. In his last outing versus New Britain he tossed 6 innings of one-hit baseball and induced 11 ground ball outs.
