NOTES: Allen Webster finally gets his “official” second start of the season after his April 10th start versus Lehigh Valley was postponed just two innings in. Webster will look to start the way he did in that outing, striking out four before the rains wiped it all away…By all accounts Anthony Ranaudo looked very strong in his first game action since last July. In his April 9th start versus Reading he struck out 6 and allowed only a run in 5 innings. Two solid starts to kick off his return to action will help ease the tensions of skeptics…The Salem Sox (4-5) picked up a nice walk-off win at home last night on a Keury De La Cruz two-out double that plated Sean Coyle and Deven Marrero. They will look to carry that momentum into their three –game set against Potomac starting tonight. The Sox took 2 of 3 from the Nationals on the road last week. In their one loss of that series starter William Cuevas allowed 8 earned runs in 2 2/3 innings…The Drive (6-5) return to Fluor Field for a quick three game home stand on the heels of a 4-3 road trip. Tonight’s starter Justin Haley has allowed 10 walks in his first 6 2/3 innings of work. With Lowell last season he allowed 16 walks in 33 1/3 innings.
New England teams
New Hampshire Fisher Cats – Marcus Walden (0-1, 4.15 ERA, 6 Ks)
at New Britain Rock Cats – Logan Darnell (0-0, 1.04 ERA, 2 Ks)
NOTES: The season’s first ‘Battle of the Cats’ commences in New Britain tonight, the start of a three game series. Marcus Walden gets his third start of the season, having going 4 1/3, allowing 3 runs in each of his first two starts. Kevin Pillar will look to extend his nine game hitting streak. The Fisher Cats outfielder is batting .421 versus left handed pitchers, which is what he will get tonight in the form of Rock Cats starter Logan Darnell. In two starts Darnell has allowed 9 hits and 5 walks for a 1.62 WHIP that is ninth highest in the Eastern League. On the bright side, he’s only allowed one of those base runners to score, giving him a 1.04 ERA, fourth best in the league.
