Before his Patriots engaged in the first of their joint practices with the New Orleans Saints, New England quarterback Tom Brady phoned in to The Golf Channel's "Morning Drive" program on Tuesday. And though he doesn't get on the course himself as much as he used to -- what with a wife, kids, and Super Bowl-or-bust expectations occupying his time -- he does pay attention to the tour, and knows one player he'll be rooting for in this weekend's PGA Championship.
That would be Keegan Bradley, the Hopkinton High graduate who is the reigning champion at the season's final major, and who busted out the #WWTBD -- as in "What Would Tom Brady Do?" -- hashtag both before and after winning the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday. So huge a Boston sports fan that it "pretty much runs my life," the Vermont native said last month that Brady is his "favorite athlete of all time," so as he defends his title on Kiawah Island's Ocean Course this weekend, it could be a boost to know he's got one of his heroes in his corner.
"He's a terrific player, and I've obviously watched him since he came on the scene after last year's big win," Brady said. "We're always rooting for him and the local guys from the area that root for the Patriots. There's a lot of golf fans on our team, so he's got a lot of support in our locker room. He's a hell of a player, and obviously (it) was a huge win last week so he's got a lot of momentum going into this week."
