Tim Thomas Bobblehead Day went off without a hitch Sunday in South Florida, or the player being honored.
Thomas, or to be more precise, his bobblehead was all over the place when the Bruins beat the Florida Panthers 5-2 in Sunrise.
Only thing, Thomas played goalie for the Dallas Stars Saturday night.
The Florida Panthers honored Thomas Sunday even though he was traded by the Panthers to Dallas last week. Thomas was replaced in Florida by his old tire-pumping nemesis Roberto Luongo. Long ago, the Panthers had scheduled Thomas' bobblehead day to coincide with the Bruins' visit to Sunrise and decided not to change their plan.
Even though the former Conn Smythe and Vezina Trophy winner was no longer in the Panthers' employ, and Luongo was in goal against Boston Sunday, the Panthers figured the Bruins' fans in attendance would happily take the bobbleheads home. Several thousand hearty hockey fans, who braved temperatures in the mid-80s and a bright South Florida afternoon sun, were rewarded for their efforts with their own mini-Thomases.
The first 7,500 fans got both the Thomas bobblehead and a poster featuring Luongo. Given the marketedly pro-Boston crowd, it's not easy to figure out that the Panthers probably have a few thousand Luongo posters remaining for their next home game.

NESN's Jamie Erdahl, who Saturday broke the news of Claude Julien's "long walks" in the Florida sun, turned this selfie into a tribute to Timmy.
Thomas won his lone Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011, at the expense of Luongo and the Canucks.
Thomas was probably happy he didn't have to face Boston again. The Bruins swept the state of Florida's two NHL teams this season, going a combined 9-0 against Florida and Tampa Bay. The Bruins beat the Lightning Saturday night 4-3 after a seven-round shootout. The reward for these back-to-back victories in less than 20 hours was a day off Monday. Last call on South Beach is 5 a.m., and many bars never close, so that day off will be well earned.
The Bruins will have a couple of days to shake off all that South Beach fun. They face Thomas Vanek and the Canadiens in Montreal on Wednesday night. That should sober them up pretty quickly.
The Bruins fans in South Florida weren't the only ones who enjoyed honoring Thomas. The Dallas Stars joined in via Twitter, poking some fun at the Panthers.
@FlaPanthers could you send a bobblehead or two our way? Feel free to customize it if you have a green marker around.— Dallas Stars (@DallasStars) March 9, 2014
@DallasStars We could, but you should probably find someone more qualified to back up Timmy for now (just to be safe).— Florida Panthers (@FlaPanthers) March 9, 2014
Thomas is scheduled to start for the Stars Monday night.
The bobbleheads will stand tall forever.
