Now, he's taking on You Tube with one final man-to-beard talk before his facial hair comes off for good later this week. He spends some quality face time while trimming his beard one final time and gives it proper credit for its role in last season's success.
"Well, beard, I want to thank you for a beautiful 2013 season. You absolutely nailed it, buddy," he says in the video posted Monday. "But it's time to take her down."
Somehow, it's not too much of a stretch to believe he talks to the beard when the cameras are off, as well.
He begins the process of becoming fully clean-shaven by shearing off his mustache in the [video] clip.
Later this week, Gomes will shave off the entire beard as part of a promotion for Philips Norelco, which also produced the above video as a promotional tool for a new Beardtrimmer. It boasts a laser guidance system that would make Dr. Evil envious. "My motto is 'turn the page' and that starts with my facial hairstyle, especially when the beards of my teammates and I were such a focal point the past year," added Gomes in a release.
All of this comes just in time for the official start of spring training. Imagine that.
