budweiser facebook.jpgIn 2011, it was Popeye's and Bud Light that helped to define the Red Sox collapse.

This year, if they somehow fail to win the A.L. East, we can blame Budweiser.

It's pretty much a given that the Red Sox will win the A.L. East. But nothing will be official until Friday at the earliest. Boston clinched its first since playoff berth since 2009 by beating Baltimore 3-1 Thursday night.

The people at Budweiser missed the memo about the 0.0000001 percent doubt Red Sox fans still have about their team winning the A.L. East this year.

The above ad, shared with Budweiser's 11 million Facebook followers Thursday, laid out the current wild-card chase in the American League. Somehow, it's been determined that winning the wildcard and thus qualifying for a one-game playoff denotes "Greatness."

Of course, what else would you expect from the self-proclaimed "King of Beers."

Absent from this "race for greatness" are the three divisional leaders in the American League, Boston, Detroit and Oakland, none of whom had clinched anything at the time this spot was posted. Heading into Thursday night's game, both the Tigers and A's led their respective divisions by 6.5 games and the Red Sox held a eight-game lead over Tampa Bay.
