The folks at "Funny or Die" caught Tom "Shady" Brady and his newest BFF in this new spot for "Dick's Sporting Goods."
The video is a follow-up to last year's wicked funny "Tom Brady's Wicked Boston Accent," which got more than 1.2 million views on the "Funny or Die" site.
Doug, an over-eager Dick's sales clerk, tries to impress his girlfriend and her parents after an Under Armour Brady autograph session by telling them that Brady is his good pal. Doug and Brady had an earlier run-in when he pestered the Patriots QB about his outlandish Boston accent. The two quickly make up before Doug asks Brady for a favor: pretend to be my friend.
"Just go along with this, for love," Doug asks Brady.
Brady reluctantly agrees, but eventually regrets it after having to re-pay a non-existent debt.
"And the funniest story of all is when I taught Tom to play football," Doug says.
After being called "Tommy Salami," among other things, Brady eventually walks away.
"His Boston accent is ridiculous!" Doug's girlfriends adds in a huff.
It offers Patriots' fans a rare reason to smile during an off-season that saw the loss of Wes Welker to Denver, Rob Gronkowski to injury and Aaron Hernandez to jail.
At least there's Tebow.
The release of the spot Wednesday on "Funny or Die" was perfect timing, as things in Foxborough are likely to get somber when Bill Belichick takes to the microphone at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, presumably to discuss at least in part the Hernandez situation.
That will be no laughing matter.
As always with the Patriots: "It is what it is."
