Video: Jonah Hill on SNL swaps 'Moneyball' for tennis balls
For a change, this weekend we lost an hour of sleep over something besides the Super Bowl. Before bedtime Saturday, Jonah Hill, most-recently of "Moneyball" fame, returned this week to NBC's "Saturday Night Live." It was his second appearance as host. Unfortunately, there was no cameo by Brad Pitt, Billy Beane or Carmine. Nor did we get a sequel to SNL's "Tinyballs" skit from 2011. But viewers did see a sequel of sorts this time involving tennis balls. And they definitely landed right on the money. Hill, playing a Lids sales-associate/lab subject, took multiple shots to the crotch from a stubborn tennis ball machine in a "Science Finders" digital short. It also featured a brief appearance by John McEnroe. The adjectives "swollen," "sore" and "smashed" would be more appropriate than "tiny" this time. Check it out above. Men, this one is painful to watch.
This week's SNL lampooned Rush Limbaugh in the opening by giving him some new sponsors. No word on whether or not Tim Thomas tuned in although something tells me El Rushbo is doing just fine in terms of sponsors and audience. The show also revived Hill's six-year-old, son-of-divorce "Evan Grossman" character and aired an episode of J-Pop America Fun Time Now (a little awkward on the anniversary of the Japanese tsunami and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident). Hill appeared in a funny video during his opening monologue that lamented his Oscar loss in best supporting actor category and two-time best actor winner Tom Hanks stopped by to rub it in.
Last week's show with Lindsay Lohan was SNL's second-highest rated show of the season with 7.4 million viewers and featured an epic "Real Housewives of Disney" sketch. That one was so popular, the folks at SNL posted this video of some deleted scenes:
Now go back to bed and get back that lost hour of sleep.
