The Commonwealth Games in India

After the Olympics, there is no larger sporting event in the world than the Commonwealth Games. Over 6000 athletes from 71 teams contested 17 events over the course of the October 3 - 14 meeting. Some of the sports, such as lawn bowls, are unique to the Commonwealth countries. In addition, 15 events in four para-sports took place. Australia won the medal tally by a large margin, taking home 178 medals, while host India kept 107 for itself. Glasgow hosts the next Commonwealth Games in 2014. The family in the small, colorful room in No. 4 is probably the one I react to the strongest. I cannot help but imagine that the ceremonies on TV are still full of wonder.

Also, the anonymity of the silhouetted marathon runner is something to which all of us anonymous runners can relate.
