Soccer in Iraq, the Judo World Cup, and the Vermont Death Race
This week Big Shots flies over the Alps in a catamaran racing boat, bicycles up Mount Washington, and skies down a closed slope in Oregon. There's also cliff diving in Croatia, cricket in Sri Lanka, and the U19 basketball tournament in Auckland. Later this week I'll look at track and field events all over the world, and an upcoming post will cover The Ashes, the continuing cricket fight between England and Australia. ( 33 photos total)

The Alinghi giant catamaran is airlifted at the foot of the Swiss Alps July 8 near Le Bouverets. Swiss America's Cup defenders Alinghi launched their giant catamaran for a duel against US rival Oracle by airlifting it into Lake Geneva. In the 30-minute operation, the 90-foot twin-hull craft was hoisted out of the boatyard at Villeneuve, Switzerland by a Russian MI-26 transport helicopter and brought to its temporary port on the lake.
