Playing GM: What should the Celtics do?
Option: Trade Kevin Garnett
Garnett's trade value may be based purely on his expiring $21 million contract. That's a lot of cap space coming off the books this summer. The question that Ainge faces is whether Garnett's expiring deal is worth more to the Celtics in the offseason, or whether the Celtics can get more talent in a trade than the talent they're predicting will hit the open market. (Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, for example, aren't likely to be free agents as was first thought). On the court, Garnett is fading fast, and his role after this season is likely as a backup. He could also retire.
