Bill Russell through the years
Russell was born Feb. 12, 1934 in Louisiana, before his family moved to San Francisco. He would stay home to play basketball at the University of San Francisco, where he, along with future Celtics teammate K.C. Jones, led the team to 56 consecutive victories and two NCAA championships. He averaged 20.7 points and 20.3 rebounds during his three-year tenure at USF. He also was an Olympic gold medalist in 1956.
