Fans around Boston did their best to woo Kevin Love this weekend as the All-Star explored the city. On Sunday night David Ortiz got into the recruiting act as well, tweeting at the Minnesota Timberwolves power forward after Love watched the Red Sox defeat the Rays earlier in the day at Fenway Park.
Yo @kevinlove if you need advice on moving from Minnesota to Boston just let me know #CityOfChamps
— David Ortiz (@davidortiz) June 1, 2014
Ortiz spent parts of six seasons playing for the Minnesota Twins before he was released by the team in December 2002. Ortiz went on to sign with the Red Sox before the 2003 season and has played the remainder of his career to date in Beantown.
Unlike Ortiz, if Love comes to Boston it likely won't happen via free agency. Minnesota is reportedly considering dealing the unhappy star, even though the Timberwolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders told reporters today in Minnesota that the team plans on keeping the star for the upcoming season.
“I expect him to be playing for us next year,” Saunders told reporters today.
Saunders also commented on Love's trip to Boston. “I don’t really dictate where guys go on vacation or what they do. They can go wherever they want to go,” he said.
Whether the Celtics will have the opportunity to deal for the big man this summer remains to be seen, but Ortiz may not have been the only Boston athlete that was recruiting Love to town this weekend. Rajon Rondo was spotted with Love at Fenway Park on Sunday and several Patriots players spent time with Love as well.
Also heard that Rob Gronkowski & Kevin Love briefly chatted during a rooftop shindig at a hotel near the Boston Common today.

A little birdie tells me Kevin Love was in Boston last night hanging out with #Patriots players. Checking out his future hometown perhaps?
