This 20-assist night in April 2009, made Jason Kidd (then 36) the oldest player to record 20 assists in a game

Celtics:
PG: Rajon Rondo
SG: Ray Allen
SF: Paul Pierce
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Jermaine O'Neal

Mavericks:
PG: Jason Kidd
SG: Jason Terry
SF: Caron Butler
PF: Dirk Nowitzki
C: Tyson Chandler

Storylines:
The Cowboys canned Wade Phillips: Hardly noticed there was a Mavs game tonight with all the sound and fury around Phillips getting axed. It's all Cowboys all the time on Dallas talk radio, TV and in the Dallas Morning News sports page. Meanwhile, the Mavs are coming off an 11-point home loss to the Nuggets feeling like they're in a rut even though the season's only five games old. Good shots are hard to come by and they're complaining that their offense is predictable. Probably caught it from the Cowboys.

Kidd vs. RondoRajon Rondo's morphing into a younger, faster version of Jason Kidd, going on ridiculous assist sprees the way Kidd used to. Rondo dropped 10 last night against Oklahoma City, and it almost felt like a letdown compared to the supersized numbers he had been throwing up. His 24 dimes against the Knicks in October left him one shy of Kidd's all-time best. Back in his first stint with the Mavs, Kidd passed out 25 assists in a 136-133 win over over the Stockton-Malone Jazz. Kidd dropped 20 dimes a couple of seasons ago in a late-season win over the Suns that made him the oldest player to hand out at least 20 assists in a game. Kidd leads the West with 10.8 assists a night. Rondo leads the league with 14.7.

Flying American: The Celtics haven't lost at American Airlines Center since 2007. They've won three straight in Dallas' building -- a 9-point win last season, a 7-point win that completed the season sweep the year before that, and a 4-point win the to sweep them up during the title season. The Celtics have won five of their past six meetings with the Mavs overall, before that Dallas had won seven straight.
