For the third straight season, the Celtics will head to Newport, R.I. for training camp. The team will train for four days at Salve Regina University staring Sept. 28.
Initially, Celtics president Danny Ainge said the Celtics would hold their camp in Waltham. Team captain Paul Pierce lobbied during the summer to venture off, possibly outside of the New England area, an idea some teammates agreed with. Ainge, though open, sounded reluctant.
The Celtics went to Rome for training camp before their title season in 2007-08.
