rivers.JPGCeltics coach Doc Rivers downplayed the report that he was considering leaving the team at season's end. He said he evaluates his future with the team each summer, taking into consideration his family more than anything else. He acknowledged, however, that this year has been a difficult one, challenging him to find ways to motivate a team plagued by injuries and inconsistency.

"I would say what I've said for the last three years," Rivers said. "This is old news. I don't think about it to be honest. But every summer I do the same thing, I go home and get away from it for a while and then make a decision. It's no different from last summer, the summer before that. I was a little amused at the question because I thought this was old news.

"I think this year has worn on everyone. This has been a difficult year, but as a coach you're going to have some of those. It's been a challenging year, there's no doubt about that, but that won't play into it. I love the guys I'm coaching. It's just been a challenging year when you start out the way you start out and then you become an inconsistent team and every night you're trying to find the button to push. It's exhausting, but it's exhilarating in some ways. In some sadistic way it's probably good.

"You could have made the case last year, you can make it every year. There's always a reason why. The bottom line is I am a father and I have kids and that's always going to be an issue for me. It was when I took the job. So that'll never go away. My kids are doing very well, they're very happy, they're well-adjusted -- probably because I'm not home every day -- things are going well, so we'll make that decision when it comes."
