Game Updates: Celtics @ Cavs (Columbus)
End of Game The Celtics wrap it up 96-82. Eddie House (34), Kendrick Perkins(33), Rasheed Wallace (30), Sheldon Williams (32) and Marquis Daniels (30) were all the minute warriors for the night. The final lines won't show it, but it was fun watcing J.R. Giddens down the strech. Basketball's obviously a fluid game, but when he's on the court, it's hard to find a moment when J.R. Giddens is sitting still. The Celtics look prepared, but it's hard to figure out exactly where the Cavs are at the end of the preseason. LeBron's 9-for-28 the last two nights. Shaq looked strong over 20 minutes (16 points, five rebounds).
Fourth Quarter (8:45): His starters aren't on the floor and the game's sort of a throwaway (87-72), but Doc keeps teaching. He's halfway up the court screaming at Lester Hudson, who stopped so quickly mid-dribble it looked like Rivers had him on a leash.
Third quarter (:30.9): Mark Murphy, one of the cooler counterparts from the other paper, made a nice little observation after Marquis Daniels scored on Jamario Moon. "The player [the Celtics] signed scored on the player they wanted to sign." Daniels came back down and hit Moon with a nice little crossover, getting to the line for free throws.
Third Qaurter (1:51): LeBron's played 29 minutes, his high for the preseason. He shot 3-for-13 last night against Dallas. He's 6-for-15 tonight with 18 points.
Third Quarter (6:28): The Cs are up 73-52 with Rondo, Perkins, Williams, House and Daniels on the floor and someone on press row just joked, 'I don't think you should play Allen and Garnett next Tuesday.
Second Half: Sort of a failed experiement here, but I'll try to figure out some kind of rhythm for the game updates. Anyway, The on-court highlight from the first half were Paul Pierce's 11 points in 13 minutes, considering he wasn't supposed to play at all. Marquis Daniels showed why Doc likes him so much with five first-half assists, nevermind the 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Sort of hard to ignore Shaquille O'Neal's first half numbers. Diesel went for 14 early, knocking down 6-of-eight shots in about 14 minutes.
But the fireworks came in near the close of the second quarter when Sheldon Williams and Mo Williams got into it. It started when Sheldon apparently shoved Williams sort of dismissively. Williams fell to the floor by the Celtics bench, and when he got up he threw a shoulder at Williams. They were both teed-up for it. None of it escalated.
First Quarter: LeBron James gets the royal treatment in Columbus along with a framed Ohio State jersey. The Celtics will go with Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, Marquis Daniels, Rasheed Wallace and Paul Pierce.
