Celtic guard Ray Allen was the leading scorer (28 points) in last year's NBA All-Star game. On Sunday, though, the minutes were limited for Allen and Celtic teammates Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce for the first three quarters.
Allen, who played 10 minutes in the opening half, re-entered the game 6:07 into the second half. By then, the West had gained momentum with a 22-7 run over a 5:10 period spanning the halves. Paul Pierce, who scored 14 points in the first half, remained on the bench until late in the third.
The East led by as many as 12 points in the opening half. But the West went ahead by 20 late in the third quarter, four successive Shaquille O'Neal dunks and a Tony Parker layup making the score 109-89 with 2:15 to go.
