ATLANTA -- Celtics forward Paul Pierce has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for making what the league deemed a "menacing gesture" in Game 3 in Atlanta, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of the Celtics’ 102-93 loss to the Hawks on April 26. There has been speculation that Pierce displayed a gang sign.

Pierce found out about the fine at about 6 p.m. this evening. He did not speak to reporters. Celtics GM Danny Ainge was seen talking to NBA commisioner David Stern in the press room. Ainge said afterwards he would deal with the incident after the season.
