The Celtics picked up guard Rajon Rondo's option for the 2008-09 season on Tuesday. Rondo will make $1.2 million this season and $1.3 million next season.

Rondo averaged 6.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.43 steals per game during the preseason. The 6-foot-1 guard was acquired in a draft night trade from Phoenix with Brian Grant and cash considerations in exchange for a future first round pick on June 28, 2006. The Louisville, Ky., native averaged 6.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.6 steals as a rookie last season.

As expected, Celtics guard Tony Allen did not receive a contract extension as the deadline arrived today. Allen is coming off knee surgery and will be a restricted free agent next summer.
