No coach can take Paul Pierce for granted, but Doc Rivers spent the exhibition season making Gary Payton feel welcome with daily praise. Last night, Rivers deservedly showered Pierce with accolades for posting 35 points (10 for 23), 13 rebounds, and 8 assists in 41 minutes at the FleetCenter in the season-opening loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
