As trade rumors swirl, coach Brad Stevens stays the course

PHOENIX — Thursday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline is hours away, but as of Wednesday night, all was quiet on the Celtics’ front, according to a league source.

Despite a flurry of rumors about teams being interested in point guard Rajon Rondo, the source said the Celtics were not close to completing any deals.

Another league source said there is “very little” chance Rondo gets traded.

The Celtics already have many assets — including as many as 10 first-round draft picks over the next five years — that will help speed along their rebuilding process, so it’s not as though the team is desperate to make a move by any means.

And while other teams are reportedly interested in acquiring Rondo, none has shown that they’d be willing to meet Boston’s high asking price for him.
